Derek Jeter to throw out first pitch before World Series Game 3 at Yankee Stadium

To commemorate the World Series’ return to the Bronx, the Yankees are turning to one of the franchise’s top October heroes: Derek Jeter.
The five-time World Series champion is set to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Monday night’s Game 3 against the Dodgers at Yankee Stadium, MLB announced a few hours beforehand.
The former Yankee captain is an analyst for Fox’s pregame and postgame shows on a panel that also includes Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz and Kevin Burkhardt.
Jeter helped lead the Yankees to championships in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2009 during his 20 seasons in pinstripes, and he also appeared in the Fall Classic in 2001 and 2003.
That 1996 World Series against the Braves saw the Yankees overcome a 2-0 deficit, which the present-day Yankees are now trying to do against the Dodgers.
Jeter, 50, is MLB’s all-time leader in postseason hits (200), runs (111), doubles (32) and at-bats (650), while his 20 home runs and 61 RBI both rank fifth in playoff history.
The former shortstop’s many memorable moments at Yankee Stadium included a walk-off home run in Game 4 of the 2001 World Series.
Monday marked the first World Series game in the Bronx since Nov. 4, 2009, when the Yankees clinched the championship with a Game 6 win over the Phillies.
Paul O’Neill, a teammate of Jeter on the first four of those World Series titles, is scheduled to throw out the first pitch before Tuesday night’s Game 4.
Andy Pettitte, CC Sabathia and Nick Swisher are among the others to throw out first pitches at Yankee Stadium this postseason.
